Sugarfoot Stomp 9th birthday and film screening of Hellzapoppin' (1941) in association with Outer Sight. Friday 20th September at the Hare and Hounds.

We are very excited to be celebrating our 9th year of Sugarfooting by teaming up with the mysterious pop-up speakeasy film parlour that is Outer Sight. Together we will be bringing you a pre-Sugarfoot film screening of Hellzapoppin' from 1941; a film which contains one of the best lindy hopping dance sequences in cinema history!

Here is a synopsis:

Absolutely mad frame-busting comedy starring the infamous duo, Ole Olsen and Chic Johnson. Ole and Chic are a couple of stagehands who try to help a young playwright woo the girl of his dreams, but manage to wreck his big stage production in the process. One of the wildest, most imaginative comedies ever made, it's a film of a play within a film. The projectionist is assaulted by the usherette. The stars talk to the audience. The projector goes wrong - and the stars notice. It has one of the greatest pieces of Lindyhopping ever filmed. This film does things nobody else did for thirty or forty years, and has stuff which would be wackily avant-garde today.

The screening (courtesy of Film Ficciones- the brains and beating heart behind Outer Sight and king of Sugarfoot Stomp's moving images) will be preceded by some short films and will be followed by our club night. You can come to one or the other but we would recommend coming to both because they will each be a life alteringly joyous experience!

It costs £6 to come to the screening and the night and just £3 for the night which should start at around 9.30 pm.

Doors are at 7 pm and we will be keeping you up way past your bedtime until 2 am.

Here is a Youtube clip of the Lindy-hopping scene so you can see just what we mean:

I just want to reiterate how excited we are!

The Sugarfoot ladies.

Down at the Sugarfoot Stomp:

Music and More from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Outer Sight:

An irregular madcap through the outer spaceways of lost and psychedelic psynema. A place that's all questions and few answers, and where the windows look in - even from the inside!
